Oyashiro (オヤシロさま, Oyashiro-sama) is the shrine god of Hinamizawa. He apparently is a very vicious and vengeful deity, as he will strike a curse on anyone who leaves the village. Later, it is revealed that Oyashiro-sama is not actually a vengeful god, but a purple-haired spirit girl, who would never curse people and is horrified that her name is being used in connection to such terrible things.
According to Hinamizawa legends, anyone who angers Oyashiro-sama will be cursed with madness. In order to keep Oyashiro-sama calm, you are supposed to:
- Not enter the village.
- Not leave the village.
- Not think about leaving the village.
- Not defy Oyashiro-sama in anyway, such as supporting a project that would destroy Hinamizawa.
- Not enter the Saiguden without permission; only Oyashiro-sama's priestess and her family can come and go as they please.
- Be lucky; apparently even the Furudes are susceptible to the curse.
